Road America 500 weekend - Aug 22-24
Coming to this 4 mile road course; is something to look forward to. Being around racing teams from all over the word; can really put a ones racing effort in perspective.
Our first practice was Fri afternoon. There were about 28 teams here for this early run and Ron in the #07 car did great. He timed in 3rd fastest overall. After all on-track runs; everyone is given a printout of all competitors lap times.
Saturday was another practice/qualifing run which gave us a 2nd row starting position for Sundays main event.
Sunday went smooth and fast with Ron finishing the race in 9th overall - which put us 6th or 7th in the cars. (the cars and trucks run together). All in all ; a great weekend . . .
July 12th / Wisconsin Intl. Raceway, Kaukauna
Our team learned alot from the last two times at this 1/2 mile track. So we brought the Red #07 Port A John MidAm stock car dialed in best ever.
Hot laps and qualifing was a breeze. No need to even turn a jack bolt. Qualified 10th / feature finish 10th.
Not a mark on the car (isn't that great!). And we learned where to make more improvements. Simple changes that should move us up into the top 5
June 28 / The Milwaukee Mile , West Allis , Wi.
I don't know of any local driver, that would not be thrilled at the opportunity to compete at The Mile on a NASCAR weekend.
Ron and the team got to do just that this saturday. Title sponsor of our race was Port A John. Practice went off without a problem (after a long rain delay) ; and for the race Ron started midpack.
This track seperates the meek engines from the strong engines with its long straightaways. Ron finished a respectable 13 or 14th with the car handling well.
Now we will add this run to the information bank, and next year do much better.
6/14/2003 Kaukauna International Raceway
What a nice day for weather, 80 degress and dry. Pit passes were $20 and hamburgers were $1.50; that's a good way to judge the track management. Ron had a good run this Saturday. He qualified 10th out of 30 cars and had a 15th place feature finish. We learned alot and remidied a couple problems with the car. Even though this is last years car; there were so many changes to it, that some bugs must be found and worked out.
Shawn Utphall won the 30 lap event. Congratulations. . .
Now on to the Milwaukee Mile and the Port-A-John 20. Our practice is at 8:15am Sat 6/28 with the race immediatelly after the Crafstman Truck race.
5/17/2003 141 Francis Creek
Yes . . . It is a tight little 1/4 mile track. Ron did fair to poor on his 1st time here. Short on crew; Ron intended to just make the show and bring the car home in one piece. Did not make the show - didn't even drink much beer. Car is unmarked; which is often as good as a top 10 finish.
5/16/2003 Now This Is NEWS!!
Just yesterday we received a call from Gary V. (the owner of the Mid-American Stock Car Series); and were told that our date at the Milwaukee Mile was cancelled. It seems the the director of competition at the Mile is an Indy Car fan, and not to hip on Stock Cars.
Well, We can not have that. So Dale Weyer went to their team's main sponsor Port-A-John ; and sold them on being the title sponsor for a 6/28/2003 date. So we will be running a 20 lap race at the Mile immediately after the conclusion of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Race.
4/26/2003 Elko Speedway , Minn.
What a nice setup here. Concrete pads for 90% of ALL race cars. A guy on a golf cart met us as we were pulling in; and directed us to an open pit spot. THANKS!! This was are 1st time to this track. After a couple hot lap sessions, a few adjustments, Ron qualified in 10th out of 32 cars entered. A good effort and we were all happy.
About 1/2 the cars here, compete regularly at Elko, so those competitors had a home track advantage. The feature started just great; with Ron leading the first five laps. The winner of the event passed Ron on lap 5. From there on Ron faded back to 17th. A result of tire stagger growing to the extreme and a 3 wide incident.
The late model to watch at Slinger Speedway in 2003 is the #42 of Dennis Prunty. His car is sponsored by Port-A- John and Weyer Heating and Cooling!
Also keep track of Dave Obermeyer. He will be in the Weyer Heating/Cooling Midwest Sportsman Car.
